Install Java datapacks

This guide shows you how to install, verify, update, and remove datapacks from a Minecraft Java Edition world on NolimitHost.

Install a datapack in the active world's datapacks folder. A datapack is a folder of files (usually supplied as a .zip) that changes how the game plays. Datapacks change Java Edition gameplay through functions, recipes, loot tables, advancements, and other data-driven features.

Install a datapack

  1. Check compatibility — Confirm that the datapack supports the server's Minecraft version and read its installation notes. Create a backup before adding world-generation or gameplay changes.
  2. Find the active world — Log in to the NolimitHost Game Panel at https://panel.nolimithost.cc/ and select your Minecraft Java server, then stop the server (so the running server does not overwrite or lock files while you edit them). In the left sidebar, click File Manager and open server.properties (the main server configuration file) to check level-name. Open that world folder, then open datapacks.
  3. Upload the datapack — Upload the datapack .zip or its extracted folder into the datapacks folder. Do not add an extra wrapper folder: the datapack's pack.mcmeta must be at the top level of the ZIP or folder.
  4. Start and verify — Start the server, then open the Console in the Game Panel and run this: 
    datapack list
    Check the console for an incompatible pack format or validation error.

Update or remove a datapack

Stop the server before replacing or removing the datapack, so the running server does not overwrite your changes. Back up the world first, especially when the pack creates dimensions, structures, scoreboards, or persistent data. Start the server and use datapack list again to confirm the result.

Warning: Removing a datapack does not necessarily undo changes it already made to the world. Follow the datapack author's uninstall instructions when provided.
