How to Set a Password on Your Project Zomboid Server

A join password restricts your Project Zomboid server to players who know it. It is set with the Password value in servertest.ini.

Step 1: Stop the Server

In the NolimitHost Game Panel, select your Project Zomboid server and stop it from the Console page.

Step 2: Set the Password

In the left sidebar, click Files and open Zomboid/Server/servertest.ini.
Find the Password line and set your password:
```
Password=yourpassword
```
Save the file and start the server again.

Players are now prompted for the password when they connect.

Note: To make the server public again, leave the value empty (Password=) or remove the line.

Password vs. Whitelist

Method	How it works
`Password`	A single shared password. Quick to set up, but anyone with the password can join.
Whitelist (`Open=false`)	Each player has their own account you create. Stronger for a private community. See Add a Whitelist.

Admin Password Is Separate

Password is the player join password. The admin account password is set separately through the panel's Startup field and is used to log in as the admin account. See Add Admins.

Important: Keep the password to plain characters and avoid spaces, and remember it only applies after a restart since the .ini is read at startup.
