This guide shows you how to join your Project Zomboid server, both through the in-game browser and with a direct connection.
Log in to the NolimitHost Game Panel and select your Project Zomboid server. Your IP and ports are shown on the Dashboard. Project Zomboid uses two UDP ports:
| Setting | Default | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
DefaultPort | 16261 (UDP) | Main game traffic, Steam queries, and the address you connect to. |
UDPPort | 16262 (UDP) | Direct connection port used after the handshake. |
SteamPort | 8766 / 8767 (UDP) | Legacy Steam query ports. |
RCONPort | 27015 (TCP) | Optional RCON remote console. |
Both 16261 and 16262 must be reachable. If only one is open you will usually see the server but time out or freeze on the loading screen.
PublicName). The server only appears here if Public=true is set in servertest.ini.
IP:Port, for example 123.45.67.89:16261.Direct connect works even when the server is not listed publicly.
16262 port is one of the most common join problems. If players connect but freeze on loading, confirm both ports are open.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Server not in the browser | Check Public=true and that the server is running. Join by direct connect to test. |
| Stuck on the loading screen | Usually the 16262 port is closed, or a mod is missing on your client. See Troubleshooting. |
| Version mismatch error | Your game build must match the server. See Change the Server Version. |
| Wrong password | The server uses a join password. See Set a Password. |
