How to Configure Anti-Cheat on Your Project Zomboid Server

Last updated: September 18, 2026

Project Zomboid includes a set of built-in anti-cheat checks. You can decide, per check, whether a violation results in a ban, a kick, a log entry, or no action at all.

Important: The anti-cheat settings differ between builds. Build 41 uses numbered on/off switches; Build 42 uses named checks with a numeric policy. Confirm which build your server runs before editing, because a Build 41 config copied to a Build 42 server silently loses all of them.

Build 42 (Current Stable)

Build 42 uses ten named checks, each set to a policy number:

Policy Action
1Ban the player.
2Kick the player.
3Log the event only.
4Disabled.

The checks are:

  • AntiCheatSafety, AntiCheatSpeed, AntiCheatNoClip, AntiCheatHit
  • AntiCheatPacketException, AntiCheatPermission, AntiCheatXP
  • AntiCheatSafeHouse, AntiCheatPlayer, AntiCheatChecksum

By default most are set to 2 (kick), while AntiCheatNoClip and AntiCheatPacketException ship disabled (4).

Build 41 (Legacy)

Build 41 uses numbered switches, AntiCheatProtectionType1 through AntiCheatProtectionType24, each set to true or false. Each one covers a different check, such as movement, teleporting, item spawning, inventory consistency, and Lua code integrity.

Step 1: Stop the Server

In the NolimitHost Game Panel, select your Project Zomboid server and stop it from the Console page.

Step 2: Edit the Anti-Cheat Settings

  1. In the left sidebar, click Files and open Zomboid/Server/servertest.ini.
  2. For Build 42, set each named check to the policy you want. For example, to log rather than kick:
    AntiCheatSpeed=3
    AntiCheatHit=3
  3. For Build 41, set a numbered switch you want to relax:
    AntiCheatProtectionType1=false
  4. Save the file and start the server again.
Tip: If a mod triggers false positives, identify the single check that is failing and either log it (3) or raise the action's tolerance, rather than disabling the whole anti-cheat block.
Important: Turning off checks weakens protection against cheating. Prefer changing a failing check to 3 (log) so you can see whether it is genuinely abusive before deciding what to do.
