How to Change the Server Name on Your Project Zomboid Server

Last updated: September 18, 2026

The name players see in the Project Zomboid server browser is set with the PublicName setting in your server's servertest.ini file.

Step 1: Stop the Server

In the NolimitHost Game Panel, select your Project Zomboid server and stop it from the Console page.

Step 2: Edit the Name

  1. In the left sidebar, click Files and open Zomboid/Server/servertest.ini.
  2. Find the PublicName line and set your name:
    PublicName=My Project Zomboid Server
  3. Save the file and start the server again.

Setting Purpose
PublicNameName shown in the server browser.
Publictrue lists the server publicly; false keeps it out of the browser so players must connect directly.
PublicDescriptionShort description shown with the server.
Important: PublicName is only the display name. Do not rename the servertest server profile itself unless you intend to start from a fresh config - the server loads the files matching the name it is started with.
Tip: An admin can update the browser name without a restart using /changeoption PublicName "New Name" in chat, but it will not persist unless you also save it to servertest.ini.
