How to Set the Server Welcome Message in Project Zomboid

Last updated: September 18, 2026

The welcome message is the first text shown in a player's chat panel when they join your Project Zomboid server. It is set with the ServerWelcomeMessage value in servertest.ini.

Step 1: Stop the Server

In the NolimitHost Game Panel, select your Project Zomboid server and stop it from the Console page.

Step 2: Edit the Welcome Message

  1. In the left sidebar, click Files and open Zomboid/Server/servertest.ini.
  2. Find the ServerWelcomeMessage line and set your text:
ServerWelcomeMessage=Welcome to our server! <LINE><LINE>Read the rules on our Discord. Happy surviving!
  3. Save the file and start the server again.

Formatting Codes

The welcome message supports two simple tags:

Tag Effect
<LINE>Inserts a line break, so you can split the message over multiple lines.
<RGB:r,g,b>Sets a text colour using red, green, and blue values from 0 to 1, for example <RGB:1,0,0> for red.

Colour Examples

Colour Tag
Red<RGB:1,0,0>
Green<RGB:0,1,0>
Blue<RGB:0,0,1>
Yellow<RGB:1,1,0>
White<RGB:1,1,1>
Tip: Combine a colour with line breaks for a clear notice, for example a red welcome line followed by your rules. Keep it short so it does not flood the chat panel.
Note: Admins can also post messages in-game with the /servermsg and /all chat commands, but those are one-off announcements rather than the automatic join message.
