How to Set Up VOIP (Proximity Chat) on Your The Isle Server

Last updated: July 23, 2026

This guide shows you how to set up VOIP with proximity chat on your The Isle server using a Mumble server and the community plugin. Proximity chat lets you hear only the dinosaurs near you instead of every player on the map — a big difference for survival and roleplay servers.

Important: As of May 2026, the VOIP plugin only supports Windows servers. The plugin developers also note that if you use the Bosch Island Mumble plugin, you must disable it for this to work.

Set Up a Mumble Server

  1. Visit mumble.info and click Download Now. Select Windows Server (x64) and Windows Client (x64).
  2. Run the installation wizard for both applications.
  3. Once installed, run your Mumble server (murmur).
  4. Check the tray area in your taskbar (the hidden background-app icons), right-click murmur to open its console log, and find your SuperUser password.
  5. Open the Mumble Client.
  6. Select Server > Connect, then Add New a server.
  7. Set the Address to localhost and the Username to SuperUser.
  8. You'll be prompted for the password you found earlier — enter it and connect.
  9. Add a channel to your Mumble server and name it Proximity Chat (or anything else).
  10. Right-click the channel, click Edit, and assign a password to it. It can be anything.
  11. Adjust channel permissions as you like — there are no specific permissions required for this to work.

Install the VOIP Plugin on Your Isle Server

  1. Visit isle-voip.com and click "I'm a Server Owner".
  2. Download the server plugin.
  3. Open the injector executable on your PC.
  4. Set the TheIsleServer Path to your server's TheIsle/Binaries/Win64/TheIsleServer-Win64-Shipping.exe file.
  5. Set the channel_name field to the name of the channel you created in your Mumble server, and channel_password to the password you set.
  6. Copy the ServerHash printed in your Mumble server's console and paste it into the server_hash field.
  7. Save your plugin settings and boot up your server. Let it load fully — you should see "Load Map complete" in the console.
  8. Once the server is loaded, click Inject in the injector application.
  9. Let it run until it says "Connected to central WS as server_hash…".
  10. To avoid repeating this every time, check the Enable auto inject box.

Install the VOIP Client Plugin

Players also need the client plugin so they can be heard through proximity chat.

  1. Return to the isle-voip.com website. Click the "I'm a Player" button if you're on the server page, then click Download Client Plugin.
  2. Run the plugin installer. Allow the download if your firewall blocks it.
  3. Once installed, open Mumble.
  4. Open Settings > Plugins and enable the TheIsleProximity plugin.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Connect to the Mumble server your server uses.
  7. You should get a UserHash printed in your Mumble console. Copy it.
  8. Join your The Isle server.
  9. Open the in-game chat and type /link-account followed by your UserHash.
  10. After sending the message, you'll be linked to the Mumble server in-game!

Once everything is configured, proximity chat works automatically whenever players join and link their accounts.
