How to Change the Max Players on Your Team Fortress 2 Server

Last updated: September 18, 2026

The player slot count controls how many players can be on your Team Fortress 2 server at once. Standard TF2 servers support up to 32 slots.

Step 1: Set the Player Count

  1. Log in to the NolimitHost Game Panel and select your TF2 server.
  2. Stop the server from the Console page.
  3. Open the Startup tab and set the Max Players (or Slots) field to the number you want.
  4. Click Save, then start the server again.

The slot count is passed to the server as a launch parameter (+maxplayers <number>). If your panel does not expose a field for it, add that parameter to the startup command instead.

Choosing a Slot Count

Server type Typical slots
Small / private8 - 12
Standard public24
High capacity32
Important: Standard Team Fortress 2 tops out at 32 players. Going beyond that requires plugins and is not supported by the base game, so 32 is the practical ceiling for a normal server.
Tip: The player count is a launch parameter, so it only changes after a restart - editing it will not affect a running server.
