Valheim Patch 1.0.15 — Terrain Duplication Fix, Armour Mould Buffs & How To Recover Items That Lost Their Levels

Iron Gate shipped Valheim Patch 1.0.15 on September 18, 2026. It's a small patch, but the headline fix matters: it resolves an issue that caused some players to end up with duplicated terrain and a real loss of performance.

The same post also carries two important community notices — one about items still being incorrectly flagged as cheated, and a much more serious one about items losing their levels and variants after a world was converted to the 1.0 save format. If you run a server, that second notice is the one to read carefully, because the only real fix involves a backup.

As always, the full notes come straight from the developerscheck out the entire changelog from the developers of Valheim for the complete wording.

🌍 Terrain Duplication & Lost Performance — Fixed

The main fix in 1.0.15 addresses an issue that could cause terrain duplications, which resulted in a loss of performance. Iron Gate notes that if you were affected, you may be left with visual seams in your terrain.

The cleanup is simple and in-game:

  • Deform the terrain along the seams, or
  • walk in the snow along them to make the seams disappear.

The important part is that this now sticks: previously those seams would re-appear after reloading the area, but with 1.0.15 they persist correctly once cleared. On a busy server that means a one-time tidy-up per affected area rather than an endless recurring repair job.

📋 Patch Notes

  • Fixed an issue that could cause terrain duplications which resulted in a loss of performance.
  • Increased the drop chance for Deep North Armor moulds — both Jotun Warrior types now drop both medium and heavy armour moulds, which meaningfully shortens the grind for the new endgame armour sets.
  • Writhan spawn rate and areas increased — more of them, in more places.
  • Items affected by dev commands will no longer be marked for characters that have enabled the dev bypass command. The naming has been updated, and items can now stack together again. This closes the loop on the cheated-item stacking problem that 1.0.14 began addressing.

⚠️ A Warning About Items That Lost Their Levels

Iron Gate posted an unusually detailed message about the previously reported problem where items on item stands or armour stands lost their levels and variants. The cause was the updated save format introduced in 1.0: that data is lost during conversion, and the issue wasn't found during testing of the update.

The situation as it stands:

  • It was fixed in Patch 1.0.12 — so any world converted from now on converts correctly.
  • Worlds already converted were not repaired. The data was genuinely lost in the conversion, which is why there's a workaround rather than a fix.

Iron Gate's two official options if you are affected:

  1. Revert your world from the backup created when you first loaded the new save format. Be aware of the cost: all world progress and changes you have made since will be lost with this method.
  2. Make a copy of that backup, enter the backed-up world, put all your affected items onto your character, then return to your main world and replace the broken items. This is the surgical option — it recovers the item levels without rolling the whole world back.

🖥️ What This Means For Your Server

  • This is the strongest argument for automated backups we've seen all month. Both of Iron Gate's recovery options depend on a backup from the moment the world first loaded the new save format. Without that snapshot, the lost item levels are simply gone — and on a community server, that can mean a guild's entire endgame armoury. Automated daily backups with one-click restore are the difference between a ten-minute fix and an unrecoverable loss.
  • Test the workaround on a copy first. Option two involves entering the backup world with affected items on your character and moving them back. Practise it on a throwaway copy of the world before you touch the live one, so nobody loses progress by accident.
  • Clear terrain seams once, not forever. Walk the affected areas in the snow or deform the terrain along the seams — and because the fix now persists, this is a one-time job per seam.
  • Armour moulds are more obtainable now. If your server runs community events, boss nights or Jotun hunts, the increased mould drops from both Jotun Warrior types make those sessions noticeably more rewarding.
  • Crossplay survives the staggered rollout. Internal restrictions mean the patch takes a few days to reach every platform, but crossplay stays functional, so you don't need to hold the server update for everyone else.
  • Patch day is peak day. Players will be logging in to claim the improved mould drops and hunt Writhans, which means a full server exactly when CPU headroom, NVMe storage and DDoS protection matter most.

Conclusion

Patch 1.0.15 is a focused cleanup: the terrain duplication and performance fix is the headline, Deep North armour moulds drop far more reliably, Writhans are more common, and the dev-command item marking finally behaves. But the post's real weight is in its warning — items converted by the original 1.0 save format lost their levels permanently, and recovering them depends on having a backup from the right moment.

Back up your world. Then go clear those seams and farm some moulds.
